Some upcoming technologies for mobile phones in the near future

The technological advancement is yet to receive additional boost and the near future holds a lot of attributes that will definitely ignite the advancement. While most manufacturers will not be involved in all the advancement, it’s conclusive that slowly but steadily the advancements to occur will eventually take its toll on all the manufacturers. While the traditional smartphone features have well served the purpose in the past, the upcoming features are: M2M technology, mobile commerce, flexible display and modular devices. In this case, the exclusion of technologies that borderline between essence and gimmicks is obvious as we are dealing with technologies that will change the course of smart phone evolution.
Let’s kick things off through M2M technology. What is it? M2M or machine to machine is a network which can easily replace the keys in your daily lives. Your handset can easily be the universal key that lets you access everything you own, including home and office security, thermostat, lights, and even your garden sprinklers. M2M technology can reduce the risk of security breach and cement the security to homeowners and employers. Mobile commerce is the online sales transaction through handsets by the interaction through computer network. Currently, in Japan, customers use their handset for payment and credit card companies are running trial for this technology to perfect. This technology will centralize the payment method to the handset and decline the chances of loosing cash, credit cards etc.
Another true marvel that may take place in near future is the flexible screen. Flexible screened smartphones are basically screens that can be folded and stored in a compact area. The current flagship line up hovers somewhere around 5 inch display which has helped in the multitasking and creating larger interface but caused a serious problem of inability in storing in confined area. Flexible screen helps the tech owners to fold the device and overlap it, enabling the device to fit into smaller and confined spaces. Last in the list are modular devices. The name itself explains what it is. Phonebloks, a project by Dave Hakkens emphasizes the disposal of handsets as wasteful and hazardous mainly because of the inability to upgrade and customize. Modular phones are developed in consideration of this issue by offering customizability and upgrade on various aspects of the phone. The sections of the handset are removable and can be easily replaced by another so the device need not be disposed but for the sections that the user seems outdated or senses a need for change, they can easily replace the module or the section. This saves the cost of repairing and also completely dismisses the chance of buying new devices as and when a device gets outdated.
Considering the techs involved, the mobile price in Nepal for such devices may cost a lot at the beginning, but slowly the market change takes over, the development of variations and wide ranges of devices will ultimately settle the cost down to affordable range. Theses technological advancements are soon to be featured commercially and most probably in the line of flagship manufacturers.
